On the Friday night of Follycon we’re delighted to be welcoming Jon Boden. Formerly the front man of folk ‘big band’ Bellowhead, and winner of more BBC Folk Awards than any other artist, Jon uses his solo work to envision a post-apocalyptic England. His 2009 album Songs from the Floodplain explores the not-so bucolic village life in a world where the oil has run out and music is once again hand-crafted. His new album Afterglow moves the action to an autumn carnival in the decaying ruins of a city, where a couple try to find each other through the mayhem.
There’s a great interview with Jon talking about what he’s trying to achieve and some of his science fictional influences at http://www.folkradio.co.uk/…/jon-boden-artist-of-the-month…/
We’d encourage you to have a listen to the music before Follycon; there’s a lot in these albums to unpack. Here’s a Spotify playlist. https://open.spotify.com/…/…/playlist/05O1h25kanTvyJ9UuwTFCG
